Track Name: Riddles
May or June
'62
Sitting on the stairs outside the set
smoking a gold flake cigarette

She, the lead
he made his muse
giving her the lines she had to say
the cameras rolled and the actress played

And oh sweet pageantry
tangled itself in reality
He began to believe he could make her see things differently
Scene 2

Cue the lights
the girl at night
standing on the stairs outside her door
He's waiting inside on the second floor (this refers to the person the actress is already with--possibly a cast member)
Turn to leave
but pause and breathe
knowing this is under your control
she'll leave him for you while the credits roll

And oh sweet pageantry
tangled itself in reality
She began to believe all the lines were really happening
Scene 3

(switch from narrators voice to first person)

But I'm starting to notice
you've been talking in Riddles
and the frames out of focus
Do it over
There's a wordless reaction
that I'm tires of seeing
I just want you to need me
When it's over
When it's over

I swear I'm not inclined to falling hard
Deep bruises leave their mark on a lonely heart
I guess I got carried away but I need you to stay in character
So i'll give you the role that you play in my dreams
So that I'm always asleep
It's easy to take that way and I won't wake up to a cruel reality

But I'm starting to notice
you've been talking in Riddles
and the character's broken
Do it over
There's a wordless reaction
that I'm tires of feeling
it's the reason I'm leaving
When it's over

Please don't try and pretend to be blindsided there was nothing I could do to please you
I'm just a shadow on the screen and I don't think you'll ever see
That the ending is as inevitable as the start
Stop trying to change the script play the part
We were meant to be together why can't you see

But I'm starting to notice
you've been talking in Riddles
and the character's broken
and its over
There's a wordless reaction
that I'm tires of feeling
it's the reason I'm leaving
When it's over

Track Name: Raincoat
When I was a young boy
6 strings and America
One not like the others
Eyes like an island lost at sea

Baptized in the ocean
Heartbreak in the summertime
Something like a spirit
burned red rocks on a land locked beach

Hidden in the hemlocks
a stones throw from the synagogue
Let me be your lover
Arms that are open - lips and teeth

When I am an old man
take me to reunion
Wear a yellow raincoat
write my name on an empty beach

It's been a long while just barely a memory
You wouldn't remember me
We took a bus ride invented an alibi
And treasured a melody

If we could slow down I'd know how
to breathe deep and hold it in-
side us forever
I never thought I'd be here again
Close your eyes tight and count to 10

Make me in the mountains a secret for the summertime
Something undiscovered
Eyes like an island rescue me

Stay with me forever be my yellow raincoat
Something like religion
Over and over and underneath

It's been a long while just barely a memory
You wouldn't remember me
We took a bus ride invented an alibi
And treasured a melody

If we could slow down I'd know how
to breathe deep and hold it in-
side us forever
I never thought I'd be here ag ain
2x
Close your eyes tight and count to 10

When I was a young boy
6 strings and America
One not like the others
Eyes like an island lost at sea

Baptized in the ocean
Heartbreak in the summertime
Something like a spirit
over and over and underneath

When I am an old man
take me to reunion
Wear a yellow raincoat
write my name on an empty beach

Keep me here forever
Stay still unexplainable
Something like a vision
Beautiful perfect and out of reach
Track Name: Indian Summer
I'll play the guitar and we both will sing
Even when nobody is listening
We'll sleep in a station wagon
And drive it right back to Oregon
Indian Summer and rock n roll
800 miles down an open road
And when we run out of money
We'll both get a job in a restaurant
If we get played on the radio
We'll pack a suitcase and hit the road
You'll be my only baby
At Christmas I'll meet your family
And it's a long shot but we both can dream
Of sold out shows at the Bowery
I'll write another love song
You'll play the wrong chords and sing along

Turn the bass up lights low
This is how we move when the beat is slow
With your friends or on your own

Turn the bass up lights low
You don't have to leave you don't have to go
But it's a long walk back home

If you still be my baby
I don't need much of anything
Two years on do we need to keep
Playing small clubs and losing sleep
I'm still in debt from grad school
You're drinking too much alcohol
I should get a job and buy a house
All of our friends have babies
We still work at the restaurant
Indian Summer and rock n roll
Too many many more miles to go but
I'll write another love song
You'll play the wrong chords and sing along

Turn the bass up lights low
This is how we move when the beat is slow
With your friends or on your own

Turn the bass up lights low
You don't have to leave you don't have to go
But it's a long walk back home

Yeah we'll always remember this time of year
Never know what comes next but we both are here
It's an Indian Summer the skies are clear
Yeah we'll always remember this time of year
Never know what comes next but we both are here
It's an Indian Summer the skies are clear

La da da - da da!

Four years on and we do it well
Travel by bus stay in cheap hotel
You're still my only baby
Maybe we'll start a family
Sure sometimes maybe things get rough
We'll scream at each other and break some stuff
But I'll write another love song
You'll play the wrong chords and sing along
Indian Summer and rock n roll
Taught me everything that I need to know
I'm still in debt from grad school
Sometimes we drink too much alcohol
All our friends just wish they had
Half as many worries and a mattress pad
We'll write them another love song
To play and their cars and sing along
If you still be my baby
I don't need much of anything
Yeah I'll write another love song
You'll play the wrong chords and sing along
Track Name: Indigo
Three years down below
I found you just to let you go
Out with an Atlantic funeral
Will I sink or stay afloat
oh!

I'll return with the Great White
Put it's head on the wall
But it just doesn't feel right

After all the action
Even with the adventure
I still long for Africa
An empty winter's afternoon
With you

Four years down below (four years down below)
Wish that I could let you know (wish that I could let you know)
They hung your portrait in the academy
By the frame of Jaques Costeau
oh!

I'll return with a rare find
To applause and awards
But it just doesn't feel right

After all the action
Even with the adventure
I still long for Africa
An empty winter's afternoon
With you

Indigo
Off the Opal Coast
Where it rains the most
Where we buried you
And a strong monsoon
Sank the rescue boat
Oh youthful me
Held such strong beliefs
Worshipped empty sea
Never realized
Underwater I
Never said goodbye
Indigo
Girl I miss you
Track Name: Bellflowers
In the springtime when the Bellflowers bloom
In the hills high above Santiago
They hang their red petals low
for Daniel Zamudio

And the sidewalks that lead down to the sea
Are lined with abused ghosts
Haunting a blue coast
An ugliness exposed
Beneath the Bellflowers

More than anything
I wish for the rocks and the trees to sing
A beautiful sound in the month of Spring
And open their cruel eyes
To see the Bellflowers

More than anything
I wish for the rocks and the trees to bring
Men to their knees for the bones that sleep
And open their cruel minds
Beneath the Bellflowers

It is Springtime in the country I love
And the hills high above Santiago
Echo a blue tone
For Daniel Zamudio
Who died by her grey stones
And bled in her green garden
She'll keep his grave close
And ringed with Bellflowers

More than anything
I wish for the rocks and the trees to sing
A beautiful sound in the month of Spring
And open their cruel eyes
To see the Bellflowers

More than anything
I wish for the rocks and the trees to bring
Men to their knees for the bones that sleep
And open their cruel hearts
Beneath the Bellflowers
Track Name: Bad Blood
Bad blood
Had a little taste
Now he wants a bottle
Now he wants a case
All night
Takes it for the pain
Hiding from the light
Waiting for the rain
So clean
What an ugly stain
Everybody's different
And everyone's the same

You can tell me anything
Bad blood i'm listening
But every little drop is punishing
You know we're not that different

Old love
Have a little faith
Dial up and call
Let me know you're safe

Stay clean
Make your little bed
Why are you still crying
When it's all inside your head

You can tell me anything
Bad blood i'm listening
But every little drop is punishing
You know we're not that different

Don't run away again
Sunday's not permanent
And we're not that different

You can tell me anything
Bad blood i'm listening
But every little drop is punishing
You know we're not that different

Bad blood
Had a little taste
Now he wants a bottle
Now he wants a case

Three cheers
Drinking to your health
But nobody believes you
When you don't believe yourself
Track Name: Headphones
It's probably better not to talk about it
But I've been feeling about as blue as hell
I find something of beauty just to go without it
And lose my spirit at the sound of the bell

All the young bright boys with their jaw lines strong
I can handle it with my headphones on
With my headphones on

And the wide eyed girls if they talk to me
I don't have to look and I don't need to speak
With my headphones on

Nobody seems to have a goddamn problem
Murdering anything they don't understand
Yeah- they'll punch and beat it till it jumps out the window
And leave it bleeding broken heart in it's hand

All the young bright boys with their jaw lines strong
I can handle it with my headphones on
With my headphones on

And the wide eyed girls if they talk to me
I don't have to look and I don't need to speak
With my headphones on

And I always thought you were the one
But I never knew how much it would hurt if I
Heard a lie
I'm trying not to think too much about it

(trying not to- trying not to think- trying not to think too much about it)

Jane always keeps her kings on the very last row
I wonder if there's anymore room in the world for me
I can't believe it
I'm trying too hard not to think about it

(trying not to- trying not to think- trying not to think too much about it)
I'm still waiting for a phone call....

All the young bright boys with their jaw lines strong
I can handle it with my headphones on
With my headphones on

And the wide eyed girls if they talk to me
I don't have to look and I don't need to speak
With my headphones on

But don't ever tell anyone anything
You'll start missing everyone
Track Name: Australia
Truth, my love, spill out my clean white blood
Something to wake me up
Anything for you

Fate, my friend, on with the chains again
Off with my heavy head
What do I care?

Bring me down
Down
Down

Bring me down
Down
Down

Where there is no motion
No second opinion
Just crystal clear vision
Brown skin and the open ocean

Sun burned land
Deal me an even hand
Red dirt and golden sand
I'll make my home

I was lost
Nailed to a Southern Cross
Oh, what a priceless cost
For a place in the world

Bring me down
Down
Down

Bring me down
Down
Down

Where there is no motion
No second opinion
Just crystal clear vision
Brown skin and the open ocean

A-la-la-la-a-a-a-la-la-la
Everyone answers
In Australia
Everyone equal
In Australia
Track Name: Goodnight
Memories are awful things
They fill you up until you sink
They've ruined every song you sang to me
In the park beside my house
After dark when stars are out
They're still awake I wish they'd let me sleep

Gather them together
Play them on repeat
Watching me come back to you come back to me

So goodnight
And I hope you spend it well
Out of sight
Out of mind
Keep your cold hands to yourself
And I'll be fine
In a little while
Just not tonight

Summer lakes and middle names
Early morning Etta James
I wish they'd go I wish they'd fade away
Walking back it's colder now
Holding hands and stars are out
I miss them but I'd like to go to sleep

Gather them together
Play them on repeat
Watching me abandon you abandon me

'Cause I'm leaving I am leaving I am leaving you
Say it out loud say it three time
And believe it
'cause it's true

So goodnight
And I hope you spend it well
Out of sight
Out of mind
Keep your cold hands to yourself
And I'll be fine
In a little while
Just not tonight

I'm still stuck inside your dreams and
Soon enough the phone will ring
But this time I don't feel like answering
